India may not be a leader in electric vehicles, but that does not mean they do not have new electric models. Tata, India’s electric car market leader, has just unveiled the Curvv concept car. This car is an all-electric coupe chassis that will be available in the next two years. Curvv represents Tata’s evolved design language called “digital”. This design focuses on clean surfaces and dynamic lines.
The concept car comes with the usual coupe chassis mode, slim LED lighting at both ends, glossy plastic trim on the windowsills and triangular daytime running lights on the front bumper. Interiors and entrances / exits are not sacrificed for sporty design, and the Curvv has class-leading dimensions and features.
There are two medium-sized standless displays mounted on the dashboard, one for information and entertainment and the other for digital instrumentation. The dual-blade steering wheel has an illuminated address and integrated controls, in contrast to the center console buttons. The car features a panoramic sunroof that shines light into the cabin, as well as ambient lighting, and futuristic-looking seats upholstered in modern patterns.
This long chassis is based on the architecture of the 2nd generation of Tata electric vehicles. While the electric version will be the first to be offered with an expected range of up to 500 km (311 miles) and “advanced performance”, Tata has confirmed that it will offer internal combustion engine variants in the future.
The production version of the Curvv ranks higher than the Nexon EV small chassis, India’s best-selling electric model. From 2021, Tata will also launch the Tigor EV, a low-cost small sedan that is the company’s second electric model. The company plans to launch eight new electric vehicles by 2025, with Tata electric vehicles accounting for 25% of the company’s total sales in India by 2026.
